ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
My name is Olivia Laurie, and I am a Senior at Watkinson School in Hartford, CT. I joined the Watkinson community in 9th grade and have spent much of the past three years on campus. Before Watkinson, I went to the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts for three years in Middle school. While I am still very immersed in the arts, I spend most days working with my fellow global studies peers and broadening my understanding and curiosity about the world around me.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Here are some of the things I have done so far:
Extracurriculars:
Some of my extracurricular activities include:
-
Co-running the Watkinson admissions club and connecting with student tours.
-
Participating in clubs such as Student Foundation, RAMbassadors, and PRISM (LGBTQ+ club).
-
Acting as a captain of the girl's Junior varsity volleyball team and participating as a varsity player as well.
-
Even though I have completed my art credits, I continue to pursue my visual art in my independent 3D art study.
Outside of School:
I am equally active outside of Watkinson as well:
-
I work at a summer camp where I help teach kids the importance of respecting nature and each other, help them work on communication skills, and encourage them to get outside and enjoy life.
-
I am an experience stilt walker and I often participate in African Heritage month fairs, dances and parades as well as hospital and Christmas fundraisers.
-
I have attended several protests pertaining to crises such as black lives matter, animal cruelty, and environmental protection.
-
I have attended the Connecticut Invention Convention where I presented a design that encouraged people to grow their own fruits and vegetables and reduce the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides while simultaneously enriching our soil with the plants you grow.
